Description

Alameda County Information Technology Department is hiring an Application Systems Engineer I to develop and maintain several Internet/Intranet Java and .NET web applications and APIs.

The in-house developed Java applications for Internet and Intranet services currently run on JBoss and SQL Server. The frontend web pages include CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and Typescript.

In addition, we are looking to train someone to support an enterprise content management system and document scanning software.

Job Duties include:

  1. Developing programs and participates in defining the technical specifications to support documented business requirements.
  2. Maintaining applications as needed to support changes in business needs.
  3. Preparing and updates program specifications and application documentation.
  4. Designing, coding, and testing applications based on user requirements.
  5. Installing and configuring purchased application software.
  6. Assisting with the preparation and execution of unit, system, and integration testing for new and modified applications.
  7. Providing technical support to customer departments, designers, software engineers, and project teams.
  8. Trouble-shooting application issues in a timely manner
  9. Working in an agile development cycle
  10. Independent learning of new technologies for continuous improvement

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of methods, tools, and standard practices of application design, systems design, programming, system testing, implementation, and upgrades.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
The equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.

AND

Experience:
The equivalent of one (1) year full-time experience designing, developing, analyzing, supporting, and implementing complex software systems.

Substitution:
Two (2) additional years of full-time experience designing, developing, analyzing, supporting, and implementing complex software systems may be substituted for the education requirement.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Java and .Net , JavaScript, Typescript
  • HTML, Responsive UI, Accessibility (WCAG 2.0+), and CSS

Systems Knowledge

  • SQL Server database and SQL Server Management Studio
  • Java Development IDE and Visual Studio
